The best learning environment is the one that feels personal. BugEater lets you customize several things about your experience — your display name, your preferred language, and whether you prefer staring at a bright white screen or a dark one at midnight. This lesson covers all three.

The Account Page
Find your Account settings by clicking your avatar or name in the top navigation, then selecting Account. Alternatively, navigate directly to /account.
Your Profile: Display Name, Nickname & Avatar

Update these by editing the fields in the Profile section and clicking Save.
Language: English & Ukrainian
BugEater supports two languages:

Switching the language changes the interface text, lesson content, and quiz questions (where translations are available). Your preference is stored and applied on every subsequent visit.
Note: Not all course content may be fully translated yet. Where a translation is unavailable, the platform falls back to English automatically.
Theme: Light & Dark
The theme toggle switches between:
- Light mode — bright background, dark text (great for daytime focus)
- Dark mode — dark background, light text (easier on the eyes for late-night sessions)
Your theme preference is saved in a cookie and Database, so it persists across sessions and devices. It's not tied to your OS theme — you're in full control.

The theme toggle is available in the top navigation bar and also in your Account settings page.
Pro Tips
Set your display name before you start earning XP. When the Leaderboard launches, it will show your display name — not your email. Set it now so you get the recognition you've earned.
Try dark mode for late-night studying. Reduced brightness means less eye strain and better focus when the rest of the world is asleep.
Language affects content, not just chrome. Switching to Ukrainian will serve you lesson content in Ukrainian where it's been authored. This is especially valuable for learners whose first language is Ukrainian.
