Start Trail

You know what a Sprint is. You know the three roles and the five events. Now comes the harder question: what do you do when Scrum stops working?

Velocity numbers get inflated to impress management. Planning Poker sessions turn into hour-long debates with no conclusion. The backlog is technically "groomed" but every sprint starts with the same three emergency discoveries. The Daily Scrum is a status report dressed up as a standup.

This course is about Scrum in the real world — messy, political, and human. We'll look at the metrics that actually tell you something, the estimation traps that catch every team eventually, the art of collaborative backlog refinement, and the people skills that separate a functional Scrum team from a dysfunctional one.

What You'll Learn

  • How to read velocity, Lead Time, and Cycle Time without being misled by the numbers
  • Why Burndown and Cumulative Flow charts reveal problems that nobody is talking about
  • When Planning Poker works and — more importantly — when it doesn't
  • How T-shirt sizing, affinity mapping, and #NoEstimates can rescue a broken planning ceremony
  • What DEEP means and how to use it as a backlog health checklist
  • How to facilitate collaborative refinement sessions with BA, QA, and Dev in the same room
  • Nine story slicing patterns that turn a 40-point monster into five deliverable slices
  • Why Daily Scrums become status reports and the facilitation moves that fix it
  • How to negotiate between PO ambitions and team capacity without damaging the relationship
  • What makes a retrospective actually change team behavior (and why most don't)

Course Modules

Module Focus
The Metrics That Matter Velocity, Lead Time, Cycle Time, Burndown, CFD
Estimation Secrets & Anti-patterns Planning Poker failures, alternatives, commitment traps
Product Backlog Refinement in Action DEEP criteria, collaborative sessions, story slicing
People & Crisis in Scrum Daily dysfunction, PO–Team conflict, effective retrospectives

Each module ends with a quiz. All 12 lessons are designed for 12-minute focused sessions — short enough to fit between meetings, deep enough to change how you work tomorrow.

Welcome to Scrum as it actually is. Let's fix it together.
