Life in Tickets: Tasks, Trackers, and Time
In software teams, if it isn't in Jira, it doesn't exist. Tasks don't live in people's heads, Slack threads, or sticky notes on a monitor. They live in a tracker — and learning to speak that language fluently is one of the most underrated skills a QA engineer can have.
What You'll Learn
- The anatomy of a Jira ticket — every field and why it matters
- The lifecycle of a task from "To Do" to "Done" — and why QA is a mandatory stop
- How teams estimate work and communicate progress at the Daily Standup
The Three Lessons
Lesson 1 — What Is a Task? The Anatomy of a Jira Ticket Every task has a skeleton. You'll learn the three critical fields — Summary, Description, and Acceptance Criteria — and understand the concept of Definition of Done (DoD): the shared contract that tells everyone when a task is truly finished.
Lesson 2 — The Journey of a Task: From Idea to Production You'll follow a task from the moment it's created all the way to production, stopping at every Kanban column along the way. You'll understand why testing is a mandatory checkpoint — not a bureaucratic hurdle.
Lesson 3 — Time Estimation and Scrum Ceremonies Story Points, Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives. You'll understand what each ceremony is for and — critically — what a QA engineer is supposed to say at each one.
